Description

Rhizomes 0.5–1 cm diameter; rhizome scales linear-lanceolate in outline, 10 mm, dark reddish brown, shiny, with long-ciliate margin. Fronds dimorph, pinnately divided. Sterile fronds 55–68 cm long; stipe 1/5 the frond length, brown, with linear scales, especially near the stipe base; lamina narrowly oblong in outline, 35–45 x 20–36 cm; pinnae oblong in outline, 10–12 pairs, 8–11 x 2.5–5 cm, base rounded, distally abruptly narrowed to subcaudate apex, margin entire or irregularly crenulate; rhachises and costae with sparse reduced scales and kinky hairs, not winged; lamina with scattered long-armed stellate hairs; veins simple or once-forked, prominulous; laminar surface glabrous or with sparse minute hairs. Fertile fronds: 12–16 pairs of pinnae, 7–10 x 0.4–0.6 cm, stalked 2–4 mm.

congoensis: from Congo, the type specimen is from Cabinda Province, formerly called Portuguese Congo, in Angola.

Habitat

Trunks of trees along streams in wet forest.
